Current Practise 2007
General
The development of my work and practice has seen me develop new ways of working over the last six months - as I write this - I am about to take a new show ‘Light!’ to the Buxton Puppet festival. Working with a new team the creation of the new show has seen fresh appraisal of my shadow puppet live work with my own animations...
I have decided to embark on a more personal project, currently highlighted on the ‘Installation’ pages of this website. It is a project that explores my personal ‘hinterland’ in an endeavour to recreate the emotional intensity of childhood and its eternal implications. It explores myth, fantasy and emotional memory. The outlet for this is going to be in the form of small films released on my ‘myspace’ sites complete with music and soundtracks...
My main preoccupation is having an exhibition of my work at least so I can see it all and run a perspective of it through my consciousness. My studio is getting so cluttered!
Workshop Highlights
Recent workshop highlights include; an excellent 3 day challenge at the ‘Ridings Art Centre’ - working with 300 year 7 children I produced, with the help of the excellent staff there, three versions of the ‘Ramayana'.This meant building, complete with multimedia projections, music and puppets a performance each day, all from the talents of the children themselves. Excellent stuff! I would like to thank Martyn Grogan the drama teacher there for persuading me we could work with so many children in such a short space of time! Thanks Martyn!
Also not forgetting a memorable trip to York and working to produce a Viking performance with two local schools with the guidance of storyteller Ingrid Barton. (See photos at the following;)
The show was eventually shown at the National storytellers meeting in Pocklington. Thanks Ingrid for inviting me into to work on your project! It was great!
Finally James Pemberton invited me back to Grove Primary to work with year 4 on the Tudors - a wonderful for day educational project. I hope to be back there soon James!( see ‘example’ - on my workshop page)
